Imagine working with over 30+ colleges and universities each year... That's the incredible privilege I have, diving deep into campuses, consulting, leading workshops, and collaborating with inspiring institutional leaders. But within the whirlwind, I sometimes miss sharing the amazing work happening that I encounger across the country.
This year, some of my blogs will become a window into these consulting and coaching experiences. Get ready to be inspired by the innovative approaches, dedicated teams of professionals, and the sheer power of Higher Ed professionals to help shape institutional culture and foster student success.
A Case Study in Collaborative Leadership: UW-Whitewater Retreat
Let me kick things off with a recent highlight: facilitating a transformative leadership retreat at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UW-W). Titled "One Team, One Vision: Leading with Unity, Presence, and Purpose." The retreat aimed to support their Student Affairs Leadership Team as they kick-off a year of significant organizational changes and mission-critical student-success initiatives.
We focused on building a strong foundation for collaborative leadership. Through engaging activities, the team delved into personal and team dynamics, fostering self-awareness that will fuel individual growth and a more cohesive unit.
Another key area? Executive Presence. We honed skills that project confidence, decisiveness, and authenticity, along with exploring communication and influence techniques. This, combined with aligning efforts with the university's strategic plan, positions them for impactful change as a student affairs division, as a leadership team, and as leaders of their respective departments and units.
I had some time to adventure around their beautiful campus, meet some students on campus for summer camps, step out into the local community, and enjoy time with these outstanding Warhawks. I even went to my first Wisconsin Supper Club!
A HUGE thank you to Vice Chancellor Kristin Fillhouer and Chancellor Corey King for their invitation to facilitate the retreat, their hospitality, and for their warm welcome to Whitewater, WI. The passion for student success at UW-W is truly inspiring, and I'm excited to continue supporting their journey.
