LinkedIn is my professional oasis, not my cold-calling ground

For many of us, LinkedIn can conjure images of relentless prospecting and robotic connection requests. As a VPSA, I was constantly hounded by vendors, sometimes sending dozens of messages that became increasingly aggressive as I politely declined a meeting.

However, as a Consultant, it's a vibrant space for me to connect with fellow higher education professionals, celebrate successes (both personal and team-based!), and share my passion for the field and for my professional values. Gone are the days of endless scrolling through sales pitches. Here, I cultivate genuine connections. I celebrate the wins of my colleagues, whether it's a new role, a published article, a new degree or certification, or a groundbreaking project launch. Sharing these moments fosters a sense of community and inspires me in my work as Consultant and Coach.

LinkedIn also serves as my platform for advocacy. Whether it's championing the use of AI in higher education, healthy workplaces, and effective leadership and supervision, I leverage the platform to amplify important voices and spark conversations.

But it's not all about others! Here, I showcase my expertise as a consultant and coach. I share snippets from my work, offering valuable insights and practical strategies for navigating the complexities of executive leadership. My blog posts, training programs, and consulting projects find a home here, allowing me to connect with individuals and organizations seeking to elevate their work.

Think of it as a professional portfolio, constantly evolving and reflecting the dynamic nature of both my own growth and the field at large. It's also a launchpad for my entrepreneurial journey, where I celebrate milestones and share the joys (and sometimes challenges) of running a small business like Glass Half Full Consulting.

However, unlike countless others, I don't view this platform as a hunting ground for new clients. I don't bombard you with sales pitches, and I don't treat connections as mere numbers. If your path intersects with mine thanks to my content, fantastic! My inbox is open, and I actively engage with dozens of folks each week on LinkedIn messenger. I will sometimes post when I have consulting or coaching availability, but if that doesn't interest you, just wait a few hours. I will likely post about something completely different! Every time I do post about my availability, someone writes me and says "I have been meaning to reach out to you and your LinkedIn post reminded me!"

Ultimately, my ideal LinkedIn experience is one of mutual exchange. I'm just as eager to learn about your journeys as executive leaders as I am to share the work my team is doing. LinkedIn is more than just a professional networking site; it's a dynamic platform that enhances my ability to connect, celebrate, promote, and share. Whether you're looking for inspiration, collaboration, or simply to stay informed, LinkedIn is an essential tool for any professional dedicated to making a positive impact. And no, don't worry, I will never cold call you!
